Music Magazine Masthead Ideas

Here I have searched for various bold headline fonts to use for my masthead. I feel these bold, rugged fonts are most suitable as they pair well with my sub-genre of an 'Indie-Rock Music Magazine' as they stand out and attract the readers attention straight to the masthead. Also by using a plain but interesting font it helps appeal the the indie target audience as it is unisex and represents the sub-genre well. Overall I feel the selection of fonts I have gathered is very suitable for my particular magazine and the most suitable ones to me are either the dirty headline option or either of the indie-press headlines.

Summer Photographs - Usefulness Analysis

This image here I feel is suitable for an Indie-rock style magazine as the colouring of the image is very grungy and basic. The actual image itself that has been painted depicts the urban vibe and various aspects of the image show stereotypical 'rock' aspect e.g. smocking the cigar. The painting has been graffitied onto a window board which in itself, provides even more of an urban feel.

I feel this image is also suitable as it could work as some form of banner or background as the graffiti in the background of the image would hold a direct gaze with the reader of the magazine. Also, like the previous image, the graffiti is painted onto a shutter at the side of a brick building, which gives it more of an inner city feel.

In this image I have captured various different vinyl sleeves, some featuring artists relating to my genre of magazine such as Morrissey. I feel this is a suitable photgraph aswell as it involves the vinyls themselves which portrays quite an indie quality, and the artists who feature on them also represent the magazine genre.

This mosaic window block is situated on the side of afflecks palace in manchester. It feature various artists such as Morrissey again, and the Oasis sign which both link in with my music magazine genre. also the colours and the style give off quite a unique touch and make the window very individual, which is the meaning and theme of my whole magazine.

Here, the main feature of this image that represents my subgenre is the background/brick wall. This is due to the fact that the brick wall in the image carries on the sort of downtown atmosphere and provide the image with the basic, grunge apects. Therefore this, paired with the fact it contains graffiti, and the basic, dark, neutral colours it contains, make it a suitable image for my music subgenre.

This image is suitable as it contains various old music related posters and music gig advertisements. The majroity of these posters are old and authentic as they are diplayed in an established music store in the northern quarters of manchester, featuring all sorts of music memorabilia e.g. posters, vinyls, albums, magazines etc. This means that the image relates to my subgenre as it depicts the old fashioned, indie style of music.

This image is suitable as again, it contains the grungy, graffitied background, with the black railing adding even more of a street touch. Although the model in the front is covering her face, the theme of the image is relevant to the subgenre of my music magazine.

This image displays two, old fashioned vinyls pinned to a board of another vintage vinyl store. This is suitable as the vinyls themselves represent the indie-rock theme, and the 'wear and tear' on the vinyls gives it a more authentic feel and links in with the subgenre even more. In this image you can also see sections of packaged, authentic music magazines which again, adds to the vintage aspect of the image.

In this image, another strip of graffiti is displayed. This is relevent as the graffiti itself highlights the urban feel but the image that has been painted in the graffiti is of the streets themselves. So the skyscrpers and black and white effect of the graffiti, paired with the rough surface it is painted on and the scaffolding surrounding it, make and great example of an indie-rock themed image.

This final image is of an old fashioned radio/record player. The angle of this shot gives the reader and eye level view of down the tone-arm, giving and interesting aspect to the photo. Also the record player iteslf is a stereotypical indie/vintage way of life, so this links in well with my magazines sub genre.
